My family is experiencing our first ever zero degree (Fahrenheit) days. Which also means we are learning how many layers it takes to stay warm as the temps drop below freezing and for which activities wearing snow pants is appropriate. 
It’s pretty funny actually.
I have started throwing something warm and fuzzy around my neck pretty much from the moment I get up in the morning. Which is where this spontaneously cast on bulky version of the Oats cowl by Tin Can Knits came from.
I made a few modifications, the most obvious being that I used bulky yarn. The yarn is Biggo, in the Rabbit Heather color, leftover from the owl hat that I knit for my son a few years ago. I cast on the number of stitches called for for knitting the smaller size cowl and used size US13 needle for a less dense fabric. Also I replaced the garter stitch section with double seed stitch. The whole thing came together in just two day which is remarkably fast for distract-able me.
In non-knitting news I have started the second book in the Game of Thrones series and am having a really hard time putting it down…highly addicting.
